Cameras-TVI
HD-TVI - what is it?
Briefly HD-TVI is an analog high definition alternative solution for security cameras and DVR's as compared to digital HD-SDI and IP systems.
HD-TVI means High Definition Transport Video Interface. The technology was originally developed by Techpoint(2012) with the chipset sold to Intersil, Hikvision and HanBang.
What are the Advantages of Analog HD-TVI Technology?
HD-TVI offers security integrators an alternative way to produce super sharp 720p and 1080p images at lower cost, increase transmission distances over regular existing coaxial cable up to 500 meters, and take less storage space on the DVR.
More than 1000 feet on standard RG59 coax
More than 1500 feet on RG6
More than 500 feet on UTP (one pair from a Cat5e cable, using optional balun pair)
Camera manufacturers have been predicting analog high definition TV to be the wave of the future, and as is evident, their predictions are right on track. After all, with the lower costs for the equipment and the ability to use existing cabling, the transition is easy and affordable.
With regards to IP cameras, many network systems slow down during heavy traffic usage producing video freezing and lagging. HD Analog, on the other hand, produces zero-latency. Also, analog HD TV is easier to install and operate compared with IP cameras, thus making it more palatable to the general consumer market.
Can HD-TVI be Viewed on Existing Monitors?
Yes and no. Just like HD-SDI or IP, HD-TVI needs to be processed via the DVR. You can not feed the HD-TVI signal directly into an existing analog or digital monitor without first decoding it's signal to a recognizable HDMI or VGA output. In the case of HD-SDI this is done with an HD-SDI DVR or directly with an HD-SDI-to-HDMI converter box. For IP the signal is converted by a computer. For HD-TVI the signal is processed with an HD-TVI DVR or via a computer in the case of remotely viewing over the internet.
How Does HD-TVI Compare with other Analog HD Systems?
Besides HD-TVI there is also HD-CVI and AHD. As with any new technology, it may be a bit early to attempt to predict how the different analog systems will play out. Likely they will all compete for specific niches in the marketplace, since all produce excellent results. Initial product marketing seems to be leaning towards the open-sourcing HD-TVI chipset, since it exhibits the greatest cross-compatibility with other manufacturers. This may change as we progress deeper into analog HD ...only time will tell. But, if you have been enjoying the ever improved analog quality offered by the 960H technology, then we are convinced you will be elated over HD-TVI. Why not give it a try...cost is similar! Furthermore, if the experts are correct, analog HD will eventually overtake standard analog. So now's the time to get started.
